MR JOHN WINDSOR AGAINST THE OTAGO DAILY TIMES

Mr John Windsor, of Dunedin, complained to the Press Council about the refusal of the Otago Daily Times to publish a letter addressed to the corespondence column.

The letter dealt with the possible restoration of a former city landmark, the Star fountain.

The editor responded to Mr Windsor saying that the Otago Daily Times published a variety of views on the subject of the City Council's debate over the future of the Star fountain, but that Mr Windsor's letter was not one of those selected. He pointed out that the volume of correspondence submitted is such that it is not possible to publish all letters.

The Press Council takes the view that the editor is free to decide what letters are published. The complaint has therefore been dismissed.
